Georg Reinhard

I am Georg Reinhard born at 21.04.68 - Yes I will be 40 this year...,I'm married and have two children- Nina (10) / Lukas (11). I work at MeadWestvaco since 18.06.07 as Quality and Safety Manager in Trier. I started Mountain biking in 2001. I ride about 3000 and 500 km each year, in height I do about 55.000 to 72.000 meter /year (in the last year only 3300 km due to a lot of work). The region Eifel/Mosel/Hunsrück gives a lot of nice opportunities to do moutain biking which I use to ride, I’m very glad to live in this phantastic region. In the last 5 years I did every year several marathons (Erbeskopfmarathon -4x Halbmarathon/ Vulkanbike 1x Halbmarathon, 3x Marathon/1x Halbmarathon St. Wendel/ 1x Gässbock Halbmarathon nähe Landstuhl /1x Rad am Ring Halbmarathon and several smaller tours. I try to combinate my hobby with my holiday every year, Last year I was two times in the Alps (Kitzbühl and Dolomiten) or also on Teneriffa- There I drove some of course some nice and heavy tours. I'm happy to join the Mont Ventoux challenge.
Best regards,
Georg

Less than 100 day's to go

Yes, today we past the timeline of 100 day's. The counter is running down and the day of the challenge is showing up in the horizon.
Then I found today a new challenge that is done on the Mont Ventoux it's called "Bicinglette"
Probably you think "What in a name is this?" Well the challenges on the Mont Ventoux never end. The "Bicinglette" is a new challenge on our mountain. I heard from it today on the Dutch Mont Ventoux site that this would be a double "Cinglé" (read an older posting about the different challenges). Ok what is it?
A "Cinglé" is a climb of the Mont Ventoux from all 3 routes on tarmac (from Bedoin, Malaucene and Sault) in 24 hours. What is a Bicinglette well this is the same but than twice. Or in different terms 272 kilometre and 8886 meters of height difference. This is special for those who do not want to do a ride of road (they would do the forestières) and who are not tired after a Cinglé,.
For this challenge you should also sign in at Mr. le Pic. I would almost say that if you do so you should also sign in at a psychiatrist, but ok there are still some people who like to suffer. I will keep it this year at one climb from Bedoin and maybe a climb from Sault on Saturday but this depends on the weather conditions and of course my condition.
I'm still waiting on the story's from most of you, send me some info about your self and a picture please so that we keep this web log interesting.
In the meantime here two nice pictures of the view that we can have if the sky is clear.

I will be away from home the next two weeks, so I don't now if I will have the time to update the weblog. Only if you send me your profile I will publish, this is not so much work.
Otherwise next update in March!

Chris Schuts

Hello Fellow Mont-Ventoux visitors. My name is Chris Schuts, age 38 and working at the shipping department at Meadwestvaco-Venlo.
It all started only two years ago, I was gaining weight at high speed because I had to quit playing football at the doctors request.
I bought a bike together with Jan and we started to make a few rounds, in the beginning we often had to stop for a break but slightly and with small steps we could stay longer on the bike.
Then Jan came with the idea to climb the Mont-Ventoux (I never heard of this bump before).
Because we spend a part of our summer holiday together we were able to do so last summer. We made it to the top together with Peter the son of Jan.
I is a very special feeling I can say now and I am really facing up to do this challenge again together with you all.
At this moment I am building up a special bike to climb the "Bump".
Building up bikes became since two years a hobby and I spend a lot of free time working on bikes it always gives a great satisfaction if you build up a bike with limited money and very light weight(less is more).
I am Really looking forward to meet you all and hopefully make this challenge a real success.
Train and watch your eating and drinking and stay well see you all soon.
Chris

Thank you Chris for your story, Who will be next? Please send me the info with a picture and I can update the weblog!

Started my training today

Today I started my training after 6 weeks. It is now almost 8 weeks ago that I had my heart surgery. I was told that I could start training again after 3 weeks but this was a mis calculation. I had to wait a little bit longer. At the moment I have no complains anymore so that I started the training today with a ride of one hour. It feels good to be back on the bike again. On the 19 april I going to ride the Amstel Gold Race in the south of Netherlands so it get's time to start training otherwise I will suffer at this tour (150 km).
Today I found a interesting site about the Mont Ventoux in English.
http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Rapids/3892/ There is a lot of information on this site to read.

As you all see there have been some members who sended some info about themselves with a picture. I still hope to get from all off you some info so that we all see who is participating. Please send me some info. This will also helps me to keep this weblog alive.
Also if you want to share something with us, just let me now.

Le Mont Ventoux by Wikipedia

Mont Ventoux (Occitan: Ventor in classical norm or Ventour in Mistralian norm) is a mountain in the Provence region of southern France, located some 20 km north-east of Carpentras, Vaucluse. On the north-side, the mountain borders the Drôme département. It is the largest mountain in the region and has been nicknamed the "Giant of Provence", or "The Bald Mountain".
As the name might suggest (venteux means windy in
French), it can get windy at the summit, especially with the mistral; windspeeds as high as 320 km/h (193 mph) have been recorded. The road over the mountain is often closed due to high winds. The real origins of the name are thought to trace back to the 1st or 2nd century AD, when it was named 'Vintur' after a Gaulish god of the summits, or 'Ven-Top', meaning "snowy peak" in the ancient Gallic language. In the 10th century, the names Mons Ventosus and Mons Ventorius appear.
Mont Ventoux, although geologically part of the
Alps, is often considered to be separate from them, due to the lack of mountains of a similar height nearby. It stands alone to the west of the Luberon range, and just to the east of the Dentelles de Montmirail, its foothills. The top of the mountain is bare limestone without vegetation or trees. The white limestone on the mountain's barren peak means it appears from a distance to be snow-capped all year round (its snow cover actually lasts from December to April). Its isolated position overlooking the valley of the Rhône ensures that it dominates the entire region and can be seen from many miles away on a clear day. The view from the top is correspondingly superb.

History
Jean Buridan climbed the mountain early in the fourteenth century; Petrarch repeated the feat on April 26, 1336, and claimed to have been the first to climb a mountain since antiquity, which has been widely repeated since.
The
15th century saw the construction of a chapel on the top, dedicated to the Holy Cross.
In
1882, a meteorological station was constructed on the summit, though it is no longer in use. In the 1960s a 50m-high telecommunications mast was built.
Flora and fauna
Originally forested, Mont Ventoux was systematically stripped of trees from the
12th century onwards to serve the demands of the shipbuilders of the naval port of Toulon. Some areas have been reforested since 1860 with a variety of deciduous trees (such as holm oaks and beeches) as well as coniferous species, such as Atlas cedars and larches. A little higher, junipers are common.
The mountain comprises the species boundary or
ecotone between the flora and fauna of northern and southern France. Some species, including various types of spiders and butterflies, are unique to Mont Ventoux. It is a good place to spot the Short-toed Eagle (Circaetus gallicus).
Its biological distinctiveness was recognised by
UNESCO in 1990 when the Réserve de Biosphère du Mont Ventoux was created, protecting an area of 810 square kilometres (200,150 acres) on and around the mountain.
Road Racing
For
road bicycle racing enthusiasts, the mountain can be climbed by three roads.
South from
Bédoin: 22 km over 1610 m. This is the most famous and difficult ascent. The road to the summit has an average gradient of 7.6%. Until Saint-Estève, the climb is easy, but the 16 remaining kilometres have an average gradient of 10%. The last kilometres have strong, violent winds. The ride takes 2-3 hours for trained amateur individuals, and professionals can ride it in 1-1.5 hours. The fastest time so far recorded has been that of Iban Mayo in the individual climbing time trial of the 2004 Dauphiné Libéré: 55' 51". The time was measured from Bédoin for the first time in the 1958 Tour de France, in which Charly Gaul was the fastest at 1h 2' 9".
North from
Malaucène: 21 km over 1570 m. A little easier than the Bédoin ascent, better sheltered against the wind.
East from
Sault: 26 km over 1220 m. The easiest route. After Chalet Reynard (where the "lunar landscape" of the summit starts), the climb is the same as the Bédoin ascent. Average gradient of 4.4%.
Every year there are amateur races to climb the mountain as quickly and often as possible in 24 hours. On
May 16, 2006, Jean-Pascal Roux from Bédoin broke the record of climbs in 24 hours, with eleven climbs, all of them from Bédoin
Tour de France
Mont Ventoux has become legendary as the regular scene of one of the most gruelling climbs in the
Tour de France bicycle race, which has ascended the mountain thirteen times since 1951. The followed trail mostly passes through Bédoin. Its fame as a scene of great Tour dramas has made it a magnet for cyclists around the world.
The mountain achieved worldwide notoriety when it claimed the life of
British cyclist Tom Simpson, who died here on July 13, 1967 from a combination of amphetamines, alcohol and heat exhaustion. He began to wildly weave across the road before he fell down. He was delirious and asked spectators to put him back on the bike, which he rode to within a half mile of the summit before collapsing dead, still clipped into his pedals. Amphetamines were found in his jersey and bloodstream. There is a memorial to Simpson near the summit which has become a shrine to fans of cycling, who often leave small tokens of remembrance there. In 1970, Eddy Merckx rode himself to the brink of collapse while winning the stage. He received oxygen, recovered, and won the Tour. In 1994, Eros Poli, not known for his climbing ability, stole away at the beginning of the day's stage, built up a substantial time gap from the peloton, and was first over the Ventoux and eventual stage winner despite losing a minute of his lead per kilometre of the ascent. The last winner on the Ventoux was the French climber Richard Virenque.

Thomas Nicolai

My name is Thomas Nicolai, I'm 40 years old, married but no kids. I'm living
in Dortmund but not related to that soccer team (my favorite would be Schalke 04).
I'm working for a logistic company called "Agility Logistics" as a Key Account Manager
and of cause MeadWestvaco is one of my Key Accounts. My office location is Dortmund but my responsibility is throughout Germany and when necessary Central Europe (that is Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Poland).
My hobbies are: Badminton (with more than 30 years of experiences), Cycling, Jogging and I like to watch almost every kind of sports on TV.
What do I expect from our event? I expect an interesting and challenging climb up the mountain "Mont Ventoux" and get an idea of the performance of the pro-teams during the Tour de France. I hope to get to the top in a reasonable time, without breakdowns and damages (which definitely counts for all participants).
My challenges for 2008: Get my bachelor degree done and complete as many sport events completed as possible.
I'm looking forward of meeting you and the complete MeadWestvaco Team and I wanted to thank Daniel for giving me the opportunity to participate.
See you soon, Thomas.

One free place

Today one of our members, Jacques Boquet, send me this mail.
"Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the Mont Ventoux Challenge. ( but I checked it in my calendar... so I may still pop up unexpectedly..)
I have been several times at Mont Ventoux ( including the brevet "Cinglés" du Ventoux...., "Crazy" of the Ventoux ).
For those interested in Mountain Biking ( VTT ) the best is to avoid the asphalt road as illustrated by the small brochure that everyone can obtain at the Bedoin Syndicat d'Initiative.. ( Summary attached ). The very end of the climb must still be on the asphalt road. I did this with a friend a couple of times, we were the only ones in the local woods for more then 2 hours ( don't forget your Camel Back ) then joined back on the regular road. For any is interested in more info's you have my E Mail address.... Good Luck !! Jacques" The E-mail from Jacques is JEB19@MeadWestvaco.com
This means that we have one place free for one more person. I will not cancel the hotel room at this moment, I will wait a while so that if we find another person to join we can offer him this room. So do you now somebody who wants to join let me now we have one room available. The first one who reacts gets it.
I've got from Jacques two files with some info about mountain bike routes. I can't post them on this weblog so I will send them to all the members who go on a mountain bike. It's up to you if you take these routes or the tarmac road.

Jacques I hope you will find the time in May to pop-up as you wrote. You already know what your going to miss, A LOT OF FUN on the best mountain to ride.

Daniel Westphal

Hi everybody,

I'm Daniel Westphal from MWV Calmar in Hemer. In October 2000 I joined Calmar as supervisor warehouse and distribution logistics. At this time Calmar was under ownership of SAINT-GOBAIN France. Since 2006 Calmar belongs to the MWV group. We are producing first class trigger and fine mist sprayer and dispenser pumps. Right now I'm 44 years young, married and my daugthers are 13 and 15 years old.

In 1983 I bought my first race bike, in 1984 I was able to ride 20 kms less then 30 mins but nowadays I'm happy if I'm able to go 20 kms at least... ;-)) So the MWV Mont Ventoux challenge is a real one for me. My aim is according to the Olympic principle: to take part is anything. Therefore I decided to climb by mountain bike and if possible to ride the total distance without pushing my bike uphill.

I'm very glad to meet all of you in May and I'm sure, that this event will bring all of us a lot of fun!
Thank you Daniel for your contribution. Who will be next?

What do you need for the climb?

Because we are very early in the season when we climb the Mont Ventoux we will need to be prepared for all kind of weather conditions, just look at the pictures in an earlier posting. I made a list of things you should consider to bring them with you.

For those who climb the Mont Ventoux with bike is a helmet a must. If you ride up the mountain it would be no problem to ride without (you must get the heat out off your head) but if you ride down hill you must wear a helmet. The most important thing is that we will have fun without incidents. In high season weekly the fire brigade has to go up the mountain to get to people down who had an accident with high injury's. We don't want this! As you all now SAFETY FIRST!

So what will we need:

  • Helmet

  • Drink bottles ( bidons) you should try to take 1,5 to 2 liters of energy drink or water up.

  • Light rain jacket ( for rain but also for the cold wind on the top)

  • For the bikers you have leg warmers and arm warmers

I don't now what runners could wear when it's cold but they will now it self I think

  • Something to eat during the climb (maybe some bananas to buy in Sault, or a energy bar)

  • Your usual repairer equipment for bikers

  • If we will have fly's in the Forrest a lotion against them could be helpful

  • Shoe covers

  • Gloves

  • A bandana or thin cap to protect the head against cold and sun.

  • Sun cream (the sun can be very strong on the top, there is a lot of reflection)

  • A little photo camera

  • Sun glasses

  • And mandatory is a very, very, very GOOD MOOD

New supporter, welcom Charlotte

Welcome Charlotte, we are pleased that you come to the Mont Ventoux where you can support us in our challenge.

Today I had a phone call with Jaques Boquet and guess what, he is a "Cincle" and as you now this means he did the Mont Ventoux from all 3 sides in less then 24 hours. Look at this site in the list of "Cincle" he is number 790. http://www.clubcinglesventoux.org/index.php?pid=4 Click on the arrow at "Lauréats"and choose "liste"
We have a PRO in our team. Jaques was not sure if he could make it that weekend so maybe he will not be there, I hope he will find a way to join us because he has a lot of experience in climbing the Mont Ventoux. He also did him with the mountain bike over a mountain bike route. If somebody wants info from him you can always ask him by mail. You will find his mail address in the MeadWestvaco address book.

4x Mont Ventoux on unicycle!

Today I made a little change in the weblog. On the first side you find the last 10 postings ( otherwise the page gets to long). If you want to read the older postings, then there are two way's to do.
  1. On the right side you see the Blog archive. Choose the article you want to see.
  2. On the bottom of the postings there is a button what says "older postings" Click on this and you will see the previous 10 articles. This you can do until you have seen all articles.

Below this posting you find a film about an Belgium man who has as sport riding on a unicycle. In this film he climbs the Mont Ventoux 4 times in a day. If you look at the end of the film you can see what kind of wind we could have on the slopes. I think this is on the border of madness, others will think I can do better. And ones again you see that everybody makes his own challenge on the Ventoux.

Hotel reservation completed

Today I made the hotel reservation fix. Yes! The most difficult thing in the organisation is fixed. I want to thank Steve for his help with the translations and contacts with the hotel in Sault, because my French is not so bad if I can use my hands and feet (haha looks great) during conservation but this is on a telephone useless. So thank you Steve.

As you all can see has Heiner introduced him self and since today we have a picture of him so we now know who we will meet in France. I didn't receive from anyone else a introduction of him and so my question who will be next. Peter and Heiner where first now lets follow them and send me some info with picture. This make this weblog a living thing!

Then for our Dutch speaking members, if you want to now more about the Mont Ventoux and like to read then you should consider to buy the the book "De kale Berg" from Lex Reurings. This book gives you all the ins en outs over the climb of the Mont ventoux. The ISBN nr. is 978-90-6005-683-7 and it cost € 19,50. You can order the book on http://www.alexpages.net/mventoux/mvhome.html or at you local bookstore. I read in this book very often because of very much interesting information.
For the non-Dutch speaking members I must say sorry this book is only in Dutch and I don't now if there is somewhere a book equal to this book in English, French, Russian or German.

Heiner Korschewski

My name is Heiner Korschewski (Age 40) and I'm living with my wife and 2 sons (6 / 12 years old) in Tangstedt. Tangstedt is near Hamburg in Northern Germany and located between North Sea and Baltic Sea.
I'm working as Sales Director with Messrs. Alfons Koester & Co. GmbH in Hamburg. We transport all kind of goods - we operate worldwide.
My hobbies are cycling, canoe driving & the family.
On September 7th, 2008 the Vattenfall-Cyclassics race will take place in Hamburg. It is analog like the Amstel Gold Race in the Netherlands. Perhaps that some members of the coming Mont Ventoux challenge are interested to start with the Vattenfall-Cyclassics. Marcus Gluth, Thomas Nicolai and myself will also participate. The registration is possible starting from January 29th, 2008. Further information you will find under www.vattenfall-cyclassis.de
REMARKS: In year 2007 this race was already sold out within 5 days after starting the registration.
See you soon!
Heiner

Thank you Heiner for your contribution, If you have a picture of your self please send it to me then we have a face at a name.

Ok guys, who is next? Send your info to me and I will put it on the site.

Where the wind blows

At this picture you see the "Col des Tempêtes", if we are "lucky " to have a windy day this particular piece of road will be very difficult. Last year at our climb the wind came over the ridge with an enormous speed. It has one + you see the end it's only a couple 100 meters to the top.

Heavy, Heavier, Heaviest

I put today in the right side to link columns to the 20 most climbed mountains of Europe and the 20 difficulties mountains of the world. And if you think The Mont Ventoux is difficult then you should look at the Scanuppia. This is heavy. If you look at the mountain who is climbed the most, yes then we see our Mont Ventoux.
If you click on the links of the mountains you will see a page with a lot of info about this mountain. These sites are in several languages so you can pick the right one out for you.
Typically you see a lot of French mountains in the list of most climbed but you don't see them in the difficult mountains.

Have fun by surfing over the mountains.

Mount Scanuppia average of 17.6 % and a maximum of 48 %

Cincle, Galérien, Diable,Canibale, Forestier and Grandonneur

What is this will you probably think.

Well there are some achievements witch result in a member chip of a club.

If you climb the Mont Ventoux on a bike from all three sides in 24 hours, 136kilometers and height difference of 4390 meters, you may call you self "Cincle".

If you do the same as above but then do also in the same 24 hours the "route de Cèdres, 180 kilometer and 5990 meter of height difference you may call your self "Galerien".
You will find the members of these clubs on http://www.clubcinglesventoux.org/index.php?pcr=1&tpe=id_pry&ad=ASC
You need to write in before you do it by Mr. Christian Pic, and after you get your stamp card you can go for it.

The Dutch/ Belgium are as usually totally crazy and made another club for those who do a Galerien + another route. And of course in 24 hours. Who does this may call him self "Diable"

This was still not enough and so there came another challenge, 6 times in 24 hours. For this you should do Diable + once again another route. He who does this may call him self "Canibale"

Then there are two titles for mountain bikers Forestier and Grandoneur for this you have to do 2 or 3 climbs on mountain bike tracks.

For all these "crazy"things you can find info on the Dutch (sorry no English available) site http://www.alexpages.net/mventoux/mvhome.html and then clic on "uitdagingen"

I would say let them go for me is one climb at the moment fine. But as you see there is a lot to do on "the most famous mountain in France"

Then I have as extra some nice pictures from our Mountain last year on the 29Th of Mai, so just around the time we will go too. With thanks to Willy who send me these pictures.

Le Trail du Ventoux 2008

Hello,

Here is a little info bulletin over something else that happens on the Mont Ventoux.

On Sunday 23th of March Le Trail du Ventoux will be done by 800 runners. The Trail du Ventoux is a marathon from Bedoin to the top and back. 42 Km and a height difference of 2200 meters. The trail goes of the roads and it's been done 5 times before. If you like you can have a look at the trail from last year on the next site: http://www.ventoux-tv.com/frameset_01_archives.html After you got on this page click on the button sport in the upper field. in the next page you can scroll at the right side down until you see "Le Trail du Ventoux episode1 to 4" click on this and you see a film over this event.

This tells us that we are not the only "crazy" people who climb this mountain.

Then I had an idea, now we now who is going to the Mont Ventoux, and we all can read the names of them, is it maybe an idea that everybody tells something about himself, things like:
  1. How old are you?
  2. Whats your job?
  3. Where do you live?
  4. Are you married or single?
  5. Do you have children?
  6. What do expect from the event?
  7. What are your hobby's?
  8. Maybe a picture of your self so we can put a face to a name.
  9. And anything else you want to share.

Send this information to jt11@tiscali.nl and I will put the info on the weblog. This could be a way to learn more about your colleagues climbers.

So who will be first?

Update for some members

As some of you already knew, I was trying to organize a bus to travel from Holland for the Dutch, German and maybe Belgium members. We had about 19 to 20 people in this region who maybe would join traveling together.
I must regret to say this will not going to work the cost of a bus are to much to high for so little people (between 4500 and 6000 euros).

So this means we will have to organize the trip by our own. Please have a look in the members list if we can share cars so that it will be the best for all of us.

If someone else has a brilliant idea just put it on the mail and we will look at it.

Happy and healthy 2008

Happy New Year everybody, the year 2008 has started and after a lot of party's we will have to start training again. In 146 days we will climb our mountain so there is still some time left to get in a better shape but don't wait to long or the mountain will punish you for that.

I hope to start somewhere in two weeks training again. I will need this training because I had a little heart surgery just before Chrismas and this cost me a lot of my condition. I had a couple of months ago the idea to climb the Mont Ventoux from all the three side in one day but now I will be happy when I make it to the top one's.

It would maybe nice to hear from different members how they prepare them self's for the challenge. So if you want to tell us how you do this send me a mail with your story and I will put it on the weblog, we probably find some best practices.

Send it to: jt11@tiscali.nl

New Mont Ventoux movie's

Hello,

Today I insert some movie's (Youtube) from the Mont Ventoux on the weblog. Some of them are spoken in Dutch but still you can see what we will do in May. Just have a look and enjoy it.

Then I put the weather forcast of this region on it so you can have a look how the conditions are at the moment. One site is in Dutch, this is from Bedoin. This is the town where we will start. The other is from Chalet Reynard and is in French. When we are at the Chalet we have to go for the last 6 km. I couldn't find it in English but if I find it I will add it to the blog.

Then I had today two extra persons who joins us, they are from MeadWestvaco Uden, welcom Mark and Martijn to the group.

At this moment the Amstelgoldrace tour on the 19th april is open to register. If there are some people (who live near to holland) who wants to join this tour they should go to http://www.amstelgoldrace.nl/index.php?PageID=80&PHPSESSID=c13dc311ff8dc2dd60ddb5df04c0bb7a&p=7694&language=EN. The total number off people who can join is 16.000. The register will stop when this amount of people has registered. Last year was this in 2 weeks and for the 15o kilometer even quicker.

At this moment the total number of members for the MWV Mont Ventoux challenge is 18 MWV employees and 6 non MWV persons. Then we have 3 people who will support us during the trip.

I expect at this moment 2 more MWV people who will register, I hope to hear from them soon.

Newsflash

Everyday I get mail from more people who wants to participate. One person is going to walk up hill. And so we see that on the Mont Ventoux everybody can put his own challenge and his own targets. Some will set a time target, others just want to get up. Some go with bikes others by foot.
This is just what I hoped for that this event would be, a personal challenge for every member.
Today I made a list on the weblog with all the members who wrote in. If I forgot someone please let me now because everyone should be on it.

After today I will be some day's offline, I hope to be back after a few day's.

Help request!!
If there is someone who could and wants to help me with the hotel reservations and speak French well please let me now, this help would be very nice because my French is not so good ( actually bad). I already did some work for this but having contact with the hotels is difficult for me.

The Masters of the Ventoux

On May 24th and 25th will be on the Mont Ventoux the Les Ventoux Master series 2008. What is this? At this event there will be a lot of cyclists who attemp to climb the Mont Ventoux as much as possible in 24 hours. In 2006 there where two people who climbed the Mont Ventoux 11 times in one hour.

One of them wants to try to climb the Mont Ventoux 12 times hours at this event, this means that he has only 2 hours for the climb and getting down. Crazy I would say, Impossible some others say. He probably needs a helicopter to get down the mountain. We will see, we will be there to see what will happen because our climb will be on the 25th of May.

On the website down here you find some info about this race!

Trainings proposal

Hello

We as members from Venlo of the MeadWestvaco challenge will join the "Amstelgoldrace" on Saterday April 19th. This will happen in the South of the Netherlands nearby Maastricht. This is a racebike event but also moutainbikers ride this tour. It is no race to win its just a tour. You can chose for 60, 100, 125, 150, 200 and 250 km. On Sunday the UCI Protour will drive there worldcup race on these roads, all favorite names will be presented.

We will do the 150 km. If there are more people who do not live to far away from this region, they maybe could consider to ride this event too. And we could met each other.
This is a good training for the Mont Ventoux. Because we do not have high mountains don't think it will be easy and flat, we have al lot of hill's.

During this event there will be about 16000 bikers on the spot. At this moment you can not sign in this will be somewhere at the end of this month. Last year the 150 km route was sold out in 2 weeks so if you like to join be quick.

Adres for this tour: http://www.amstelgoldrace.nl/

If you will join let me now so we can meet over there.

December Update

Hello sportsmen,

First of all, thank you all by joining the MeadWestvaco Mont Ventoux Challenge. When I was thinking to do this I had no idea if there where more people who would like to do this. Well it seems that there are some. At this moment I have the confirmation forms of 15 people of MeadWestvaco and I think there are some more who will come, they probable forgot to send in the form. I already took contact to them.
Who are the members, where are they from and what will they do on the Mont Ventoux? Well here is some data:

Jacquet Bocquet, MeadWestvaco Brussels Belgium, Mountainbike
Christophe Raby, MeadWestvaco Troyes, France, Racebike
Michel Tanguy, MeadWestvaco Troyes, France, Racebike
Patrick de Laat, MeadWestvaco Uden, Netherlands, Racebike
Oliver Nott, MeadWestvaco Birmingham, England, Mountainbike
Ramil Nigmatullin, MeadWestvaco Moscow, Russia, Running
Dick Klein Egelink, MeadWestvaco Enschede, Netherlands, Racebike
Jeroen Evertsen, MeadWestvaco Enschede, Netherlands, Mountainbike
Ocando Wever, MeadWestvaco Enschede, Netherlands, Racebike
Chris Schuts, MeadWestvaco Venlo, Netherlands, Racebike
Peter Theelen, MeadWestvaco Venlo, Netherlands, Racebike

Daniel Westphal, MeadWestvaco Hemer, Germany, Mountainbike
Julien Rayée, MeadWestvaco Roosendaal, Netherlands, Running
Robin Taylor, MeadWestvaco Birmingham, England, Running
Steve Cooke, MeadWestvaco, Bristol, England, Walking

Beside the MeadWestvaco members there was a question of some people who work for MeadWestvaco in Hemer Germany if they could also join. I told them that this would be possible because I can not tell anybody that he is not allowed to go to the Mont Ventoux, so they will be there too. Names are:

Uwe Mariack, MWV Contractor Hemer, Germany, Mountainbike
Thomas Nicolai, MWV Contractor Hemer, Germany, Racebike
Heiner Korschewski, MWV Contractor Hemer, Germany, Racebike
Marcus Gluth, MWV Contractor Hemer, Germany, Racebike

Then we will have some people who will support us to the top, They will provide us with food and drinks.
Michael Hofer, MWV SHE SBS Europe, Austria
Celio van Gerwen, MeadWestvaco Uden, Netherlands

At this time I'm working on the reservation of the hotels. I found one in Sault which has 13 rooms available and they can help us with more rooms in the same town. If somebody wants to share a room with a colleague then he has to tell this to me as soon as possible, this will be cheaper if you like this.
You can find some information about the Hotel at this site: http://www.saultenprovence.com/GB/FicheHeberg.asp?Id_ObjetTour=348&Id_TypeObjetTour=HOTRE

Well lets start training, because without that we will have a real chalenge!

How many do we already have?

At this moment I want to give an overview of numbers of people who have sended me the form and how many people asked for information or said to join but did not fill in the form yet ( in option).
Belgium 1 person
Netherlands 5 personen ( 11 more in option)
France 2 persons ( 2 in option)
Russia 1 Person ( runner)
Germany 4 in option
UK 1 person (2 in option)

As we can see we have already 9 persons who will join and 19 who are thinking to join. From those 19 I now already from 6 that they will join, they just have to send in the form.So I still hoping to get about 25 people together.

MeadWestvaco's Mont Ventoux Challenge 2008

At this moment we are organizing a sports event for MeadWestvaco employees. We attemp to ride or run the Mont Ventoux on the 25th of May 2008. After we sended the invitation to all site in Europe we already had a lot of positive comments and several people who wants to join us. There are people from different countries who wants to join us, I already seen: Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, England, France and Russia. I hope to have a exact list of members in the first week of December. At this moment I'm working at the hotel facility in France. I also have, if we have enough people who join us from Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, a bus where we could travel with. This depends at the amount of people we will have. I'm also gathering information about shirts which we would wear when we climb the mountain( of course with some nice sponsoring of MeadWestvaco).More details will follow soon
