New Mont Ventoux movie's

Hello,

Today I insert some movie's (Youtube) from the Mont Ventoux on the weblog. Some of them are spoken in Dutch but still you can see what we will do in May. Just have a look and enjoy it.

Then I put the weather forcast of this region on it so you can have a look how the conditions are at the moment. One site is in Dutch, this is from Bedoin. This is the town where we will start. The other is from Chalet Reynard and is in French. When we are at the Chalet we have to go for the last 6 km. I couldn't find it in English but if I find it I will add it to the blog.

Then I had today two extra persons who joins us, they are from MeadWestvaco Uden, welcom Mark and Martijn to the group.

Update 22-12-2007

At this moment the Amstelgoldrace tour on the 19th april is open to register. If there are some people (who live near to holland) who wants to join this tour they should go to http://www.amstelgoldrace.nl/index.php?PageID=80&PHPSESSID=c13dc311ff8dc2dd60ddb5df04c0bb7a&p=7694&language=EN. The total number off people who can join is 16.000. The register will stop when this amount of people has registered. Last year was this in 2 weeks and for the 15o kilometer even quicker.
At this moment I now that three people has registered this racebike tour. They registered for the 150 km.

At this moment the total number of members for the MWV Mont Ventoux challenge is 18 MWV employees and 6 non MWV persons. Then we have 3 people who will support us during the trip.

I expect at this moment 2 more MWV people who will register, I hope to hear from them soon.

I want to wish everybody from this side a Merry Christmas.

Newsflash

Everyday I get mail from more people who wants to participate. One person is going to walk up hill. And so we see that on the Mont Ventoux everybody can put his own challenge and his own targets. Some will set a time target, others just want to get up. Some go with bikes others by foot.
This is just what I hoped for that this event would be, a personal challenge for every member.
Today I made a list on the weblog with all the members who wrote in. If I forgot someone please let me now because everyone should be on it.

After today I will be some day's offline, I hope to be back after a few day's.

Help request!!
If there is someone who could and wants to help me with the hotel reservations and speak French well please let me now, this help would be very nice because my French is not so good ( actually bad). I already did some work for this but having contact with the hotels is difficult for me.

The Masters of the Ventoux

On May 24th and 25th will be on the Mont Ventoux the Les Ventoux Master series 2008. What is this? At this event there will be a lot of cyclists who attemp to climb the Mont Ventoux as much as possible in 24 hours. In 2006 there where two people who climbed the Mont Ventoux 11 times in one hour.

One of them wants to try to climb the Mont Ventoux 12 times hours at this event, this means that he has only 2 hours for the climb and getting down. Crazy I would say, Impossible some others say. He probably needs a helicopter to get down the mountain. We will see, we will be there to see what will happen because our climb will be on the 25th of May.

On the website down here you find some info about this race!

Trainings proposal

Hello

We as members from Venlo of the MeadWestvaco challenge will join the "Amstelgoldrace" on Saterday April 19th. This will happen in the South of the Netherlands nearby Maastricht. This is a racebike event but also moutainbikers ride this tour. It is no race to win its just a tour. You can chose for 60, 100, 125, 150, 200 and 250 km. On Sunday the UCI Protour will drive there worldcup race on these roads, all favorite names will be presented.

We will do the 150 km. If there are more people who do not live to far away from this region, they maybe could consider to ride this event too. And we could met each other.
This is a good training for the Mont Ventoux. Because we do not have high mountains don't think it will be easy and flat, we have al lot of hill's.

During this event there will be about 16000 bikers on the spot. At this moment you can not sign in this will be somewhere at the end of this month. Last year the 150 km route was sold out in 2 weeks so if you like to join be quick.

Adres for this tour: http://www.amstelgoldrace.nl/

If you will join let me now so we can meet over there.

December Update

Hello sportsmen,

First of all, thank you all by joining the MeadWestvaco Mont Ventoux Challenge. When I was thinking to do this I had no idea if there where more people who would like to do this. Well it seems that there are some. At this moment I have the confirmation forms of 15 people of MeadWestvaco and I think there are some more who will come, they probable forgot to send in the form. I already took contact to them.
Who are the members, where are they from and what will they do on the Mont Ventoux? Well here is some data:

Jacquet Bocquet, MeadWestvaco Brussels Belgium, Mountainbike
Christophe Raby, MeadWestvaco Troyes, France, Racebike
Michel Tanguy, MeadWestvaco Troyes, France, Racebike
Patrick de Laat, MeadWestvaco Uden, Netherlands, Racebike
Oliver Nott, MeadWestvaco Birmingham, England, Mountainbike
Ramil Nigmatullin, MeadWestvaco Moscow, Russia, Running
Dick Klein Egelink, MeadWestvaco Enschede, Netherlands, Racebike
Jeroen Evertsen, MeadWestvaco Enschede, Netherlands, Mountainbike
Ocando Wever, MeadWestvaco Enschede, Netherlands, Racebike
Chris Schuts, MeadWestvaco Venlo, Netherlands, Racebike
Peter Theelen, MeadWestvaco Venlo, Netherlands, Racebike
Twan Beurskens, MeadWestvaco Venlo, Netherlands, Racebike
Jan Theelen, MeadWestvaco Venlo, Netherlands, Racebike
Daniel Westphal, MeadWestvaco Hemer, Germany, Mountainbike
Julien Rayée, MeadWestvaco Roosendaal, Netherlands, Running
Robin Taylor, MeadWestvaco Birmingham, England, Running
Steve Cooke, MeadWestvaco, Bristol, England, Walking

Beside the MeadWestvaco members there was a question of some people who work for MeadWestvaco in Hemer Germany if they could also join. I told them that this would be possible because I can not tell anybody that he is not allowed to go to the Mont Ventoux, so they will be there too. Names are:

Uwe Mariack, MWV Contractor Hemer, Germany, Mountainbike
Thomas Nicolai, MWV Contractor Hemer, Germany, Racebike
Heiner Korschewski, MWV Contractor Hemer, Germany, Racebike
Marcus Gluth, MWV Contractor Hemer, Germany, Racebike

Then we will have some people who will support us to the top, They will provide us with food and drinks.
Michael Hofer, MWV SHE SBS Europe, Austria
Celio van Gerwen, MeadWestvaco Uden, Netherlands

At this time I'm working on the reservation of the hotels. I found one in Sault which has 13 rooms available and they can help us with more rooms in the same town. If somebody wants to share a room with a colleague then he has to tell this to me as soon as possible, this will be cheaper if you like this.
You can find some information about the Hotel at this site: http://www.saultenprovence.com/GB/FicheHeberg.asp?Id_ObjetTour=348&Id_TypeObjetTour=HOTRE

Well lets start training, because without that we will have a real chalenge!

How many do we already have?

At this moment I want to give an overview of numbers of people who have sended me the form and how many people asked for information or said to join but did not fill in the form yet ( in option).
Belgium 1 person
Netherlands 5 personen ( 11 more in option)
France 2 persons ( 2 in option)
Russia 1 Person ( runner)
Germany 4 in option
UK 1 person (2 in option)

As we can see we have already 9 persons who will join and 19 who are thinking to join. From those 19 I now already from 6 that they will join, they just have to send in the form.So I still hoping to get about 25 people together.

MeadWestvaco's Mont Ventoux Challenge 2008

At this moment we are organizing a sports event for MeadWestvaco employees. We attemp to ride or run the Mont Ventoux on the 25th of May 2008. After we sended the invitation to all site in Europe we already had a lot of positive comments and several people who wants to join us. There are people from different countries who wants to join us, I already seen: Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, England, France and Russia. I hope to have a exact list of members in the first week of December. At this moment I'm working at the hotel facility in France. I also have, if we have enough people who join us from Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, a bus where we could travel with. This depends at the amount of people we will have. I'm also gathering information about shirts which we would wear when we climb the mountain( of course with some nice sponsoring of MeadWestvaco).More details will follow soon
